Directions to the TrailheadWe will meet at the Madisonville old Wal-Mart parking lot at 9:00 AM or at the Tellico Plains Hardee's at 9:30 AM. We will drive to the Mud Gap trailhead parking lot on the Cherohala Skyway near mile post 3 on the North Carolina Side.

Trail Description: We will hike uphill to the meadow for 1.7 miles on an old roadbed which is now the Benton MacKaye Trail. When we reach the meadow, we will check out the old homesite, the spring, and the pond, then lay out on the top and eat lunch. We will then hike back down the trail to our cars.

Campsite at 5000 feetPost Trip Report: Due to the fear of rain, only 4 people and two dogs made this hike. But it turned out to be a great hike. The temperature at the top was 44 degrees at the start of the hike and was probably 55 when we got back. No rain, but somewhat overcast. We ate lunch in the meadow at 5000 feet and enjoyed the great views. We also did check out the old homestead site, the spring, and the pond. Going on this hike were Rick and Brenda Harris, David Harris, and Gail Henley. The two dogs were the Harris's golden retriever Jake and David Harris's Treeing Walker Coonhound Bonnie. After the hike, we all went to the Harris home for carrot cake.
